My Niche Blog Update — Now: $2323.79

A month ago I put out a report on a site of mine I created that started cranking out some nice profit for me (you can read about that here and I’ll show you what I did step by step).

The nice news is my results have increased exponentially.  The site has now brought in $2323.79 in under 3 full months.

Here are the stat shots: (Sorry for the watermarks but I’ve had people steal my images before…)

results

Clicks: 4190

Commissions: $2323.79

Conversion Rate: 6.85%

Here Is October’s Outlook So Far:

resultsfromoctober

Clicks: 3,100

Commissions: $1778.78

Conversions: 6.74%

As you can see the bulk of my sales occurred in October.  This is great news as it means the site is getting more popular.  I also added  3rd affiliate program to the site in late September.

The only bad result is that the 3rd affiliate program I’ve added isn’t converting very well so I’ll probably get rid of it at the end of the month.

My conversions have been pretty good (over 6%) as anything over 2% is considered good in my book.  The reason I have such high conversions is because I am following my own tips on conversions here.  I am not sure I can improve those numbers but I am going to try to do so by adding some more large click-able images and by adding more sales type posts rather than informative.

Let’s take a peek at my traffic stats for the site.  Keep in mind nearly all of my traffic is organic from search.

trafficstats

As you can see I am ranking for about 1240 keywords.  Most of these are not by design, it’s just from making sure that my posts are on topic and that I am fully explaining the subject to my audience as I teach here.  Each post I made focused on 1 main keyword phrase and I did this knowing full well that if I explain my subject I’ll rank for those additional keywords.

At the end of the graph you can see I have a small dip in traffic.  This is due to some of my keywords fluctuating as normally happens in search especially for young sites.

I added only 6 posts since September 20th even though I have many more planned.  Adding more posts will greatly help increase my traffic and sales.

I also plan to rank better in Bing.  Currently the site isn’t ranking very well in Bing.  The reason?  I don’t have a ton of backlinks built to it so far.  Bing loves links and lots of them and until I ramp up the link building I’ll b a bit lower in Bing.  I am not sure when I’ll do my next round of link building, but, for now I am enjoying the sites success.

For keyword research I again used Keyword Snatcher to find several low volume but easily rank-able search terms in my niche.

Again, my link building was done using Rank Crew and getting a few additional links outside for indexing purposes early on.  I could have done all of this manually as I teach in Niche Blitzkrieg, but I wanted to save myself some time.

My Disappointments

I do have one disappointment with the site.

I haven’t worked on it as much as I would have liked.  Between the broken ankle, which is now finally about 80% and preparing to move, this has kept me busy and from making the money I want out of this niche.  I know the $2300+ is still good and I’m not complaining by any means, but I always strive for better results and I WILL get them.

My Success

I think overall the site is pretty successful and I think that anyone who puts their mind to building their site and ranking it can do this!  I am creating some training over at www.niche60.com that will help anyone who wants it and I also have Niche Blitzkrieg which I highly recommend of course.  Keep in mind that both sets of training can be combined.

I feel good about the content of the site.  I feel as though I accomplished making a very nice site in the niche.

My Goals

I want to take this niche up to $20,000/month or more.  I fully believe it’s possible.  I plan to do this by simply increasing my traffic.  The site is currently averaging around $85 per day which equates to around $2550 per month.  So I’ll need to significantly increase my traffic to hit my goals.

Again, I fully believe it’s possible and I’ll be buckling down to hit those goals.

This post is short and sweet but I simply wanted to update you on how the sit is doing and offer you some encouragement.  If you put your mind to it, you can do whatever you want — so do it!

Personal Note: In December I’ll be starting a brand new podcast and maybe have some other surprises for you guys/gals.  You asked for moire of me and darn it you’re going to get it :)

Plus, I plan to continue growing both Niche Blitzkrieg and Niche 60 to make them even better.

Comments

  1. WOW Michael…that’s awesome! Right now, I get excited if I have a day when I make anything (which I did yesterday!). I can’t even imagine making $2000+ per month, never mind 20k!!!

  2. Mark,

My post certainly isn’t put up to diminish anything that you do. But, I know your niche can make over $2k per month. You might focus on some more review style posts on your site. I think you have a great market there.

I know there are some 10% plus commission programs in that field that you can get on there. Remember, sell less from the side bar and mainly from the post content itself and you’ll have better results.

Finally, focus on the easy to rank for keywords and if you can find ones that allow you to promote something within it to increase sales.

Keep going and keep focusing on increasing your content and sales Mark!

  3. I’m just under one month in on my new site and my RankCrew links are starting to appear on Webmaster Tools. As I won’t be probably ranking on my posts for another 3-4 weeks most of my traffic has been coming from a Facebook page from another (but related) site. That said I have made a 8% commission already on a $260 sale and its made around $10 with adsense.
My site is topical (how to) rather than a direct product site and I don’t see it doing $2000 a month in 3 month (although it might). I suspect it maybe a bit more of a creeper – climbing steadily upwards. But I’m happy with that. :)
I know it has good content and it is adequately linked.
That said, I think my next site might be a direct product site – simply to compare conversions :)

  4. Brent you make a great point on your site. I agree that if the bulk of your content is informative and not so much product oriented it will do less sales on the traffic that is sent and will ultimately result in lower conversions.

That said, I could also see how several review or product discussions could lead to sales in your niche. Your site, like you said can creep up in sales as you add more of these.

Plus, you are putting together good content and it’s been fun to watch your social interactivity on your site too. Good content will help increase your credibility and help in the long run on those salesy posts.

  5. What I do notice on my (build muscle site) is a lot of return visitors. Also now with my traffic around 40% is coming from search engines and only around 15-20% from my Facebook page whereas before I was sitting at 60% from Facebook. Its not that I have less Facebook traffic but more traffic overall. Constant return visits even on informational sites I think will lead to sales conversions through trust.
On my new weight loss site I’m at the solely Facebook traffic stage. In another month the traffic will start to come from search engines in a similar way and I think the return visits. This site is a little more product orientated – certainly I made my first sale considerably faster – which is always a good thing :)
I think this is because of the Niche60 model which it working from – so thank you for that :D .
I haven’t done the review posts as yet on the new site but they will be coming in the next 5 posts or so and I’m pretty sure as the posts begin to rank in the next month I will actually get more sales than the muscle site :D

  6. Brent,

Yea I agree. Trust is building. You are also getting a lot of good social interaction on your fan page, which reminds people that you’re real.

As for Niche 60 I am going to be putting more time into growing that since everyone seems to be enjoying the training and getting a lot out of it.

I am looking forward to your product style posts. Keep growing! You are doing a great job.

  7. Hi Michael,
I did see your reply, and thank you. Just for the record, I didn’t take your post as being diminishing…I took it more as inspirational.
I have a lot to figure out, and stories like this is why I keep at it.

About a week and a half ago, I went to the first site I built with NBK. I hadn’t done anything with it since I became a member of NOWU. It gets some daily traffic (maybe 15 – 20 page loads per day) and every once in a while gets a Google click or makes a sale on Amazon. Along with Amazon and Google links, the site also has Share-a-Sale banners on it.

Anyway, I was on the site and I changed the Share-a-Sale banners to their Christmas banners and wrote a little thing about “golf season ending and the holiday season starting” etc. and 2 days ago someone bought 3 items that looked like stocking stuffers from Amazon.

After seeing this and reading the suggestions in your reply, I’ve started working on trying to get some content written geared toward holiday gifts for golfers. I’m planning on putting it on this site (because it’s already more of a product site) rather than my latest site which at the moment seems to be more informational.
    What do you think?

Lastly, just want to say thanks again for all the great stuff you’ve been putting out lately. I think the Niche60 course is great and I’ve already learned some things from it. Can’t wait to see where you take it!!

  8. *stories like that…not this :)

  9. Mark,

I didn’t think you’d find it diminishing in anyway, I’ve known you long enough to know you wouldn’t feel that way. I just wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding :)

That’s cool about the sales after changing the banners. Sometimes that fresh feel helps sell.

You certainly could work on that site a bit if it’s making sales. If that is your gut feeling currently, go with it. If people are buying from that site it wouldn’t be bad to spend a month focusing on it’s sales and traffic.

  10. ive just started to really build my website and i just started getting comments telling me how informative my posts were. but i was wondering Micheal, would you think that it would be a realistic view to make 100 dollars a month with one of Jonathan Legers niche websites for sale. im just gathering information and am curious to the success rate of them. I am pretty sure you guys know what you are doing, but i would appreciate an honest reply

  11. Johnny,

I honestly don’t know. I am not sure you would make $100/month with one of them right out of the box, though you could. You would need to add some of your own affiliate promotions rather than Adsense IMO. Plus, test. If it’s not making $100/month and that’s your goal, add some additional pages that you want and work on conversions. I just put this up yesterday: http://niche60.com/coverting-traffic-into-sales-on-your-blog/

It’s all about converting traffic into sales.

  12. dude sounds like you’ve uncovered a gold mine. that’s so awesome. just solidifies the fact that researching the niche and keywords is everything. i think that’s where everyone makes a big mistake when trying these sorts of SE traffic niche sites.

  13. Stu,

Exactly man. People overlook step 1 which is finding the right kws in the very beginning.
