Are You Setting Yourself Up To Succeed –- Or Just Hoping?

This is a serious question and one I have to ask.  It’s also one that you need to understand if you are going to become an online success story.  Let me explain.

Often I hear from people who are just about to join my Niche Blitzkrieg course or have just joined it and they’ll say something like “Well, I hope this makes me money!” or “I hope this works.”

I’ll be honest I simply cringe anytime someone says one of those, or similar phrases to me.  The reason that phrase bothers me is because that’s the exact opposite of my mindset when I came into the whole Internet making money thing we’re doing here.

My mindset coming in was “I’m going to put all of my free time into this and make it happen.  I’m not going to fail and I am going to quit my job.”  This is the mindset of champions, those who will succeed and those who have the best chance at success.

I absolutely hate the word “hope” and that’s because I believe we can control much of our own success.  Aside from hope the next thing that will absolutely cause complete failure is just not trying.  It’s pretty obvious but if you’re not going to do anything you’re not going to make money and even “hope” can’t help you there.

You need to come in with a clear mind and understanding that there is a lot of money to be made online.  With so much money out in the Internet world, there is no reason for you to not make money online.  That last statement is especially true if you come in and just tell yourself you’re going to make money and you’re going to do this online thing and make I happen.

I know this post isn’t long but I wanted to share this wisdom with you today.  I share this because I feel like people sometimes assume making money online is luck and as you can probably tell I don’t believe luck has anything to do with it.

Google +1 – Will It Greatly Help Your Search Rankings In Google?

So what’s Google +1 all about?

Basically, it’s a new free service that acts somewhat like the Facebook ” Like” button.  But does anyone actually believe it starts and ends with just the social connection?

I don’t.

I believe there is more to it than just another “like” button.

In fact, Google has a lot to say about how this may affect search engines rankings, indexing and social proof of popularity.  So let’s analyze exactly what Google says about their new +1 button and then see if you think this is useless for yourself.

(The questions and answers below are taken right from Google +1 page -(http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/+1/button/index.html)

Does +1 affect search results rankings?

Google Says:

+1 helps people discover relevant content—a website, a Google search result, or an ad—from the people they already know and trust. Adding the +1 button to your pages lets users recommend your content, knowing that their friends and contacts will see their recommendation when it’s most relevant—in the context of Google search results.

When a signed-in Google user is searching, your Google search result snippet may be annotated with the names of the user's connections who've +1'd your page. If none of a user's connections has +1'd your page, your snippet may display the aggregate number of +1's your page has received.

So basically in the search engine listings anytime someone gives your site a +1 it will show up beside your listing (think: social proof).

Sound important yet?  Let’s look at another question on this page.

Does +1 affect my site’s performance in search?

Google says:

Content recommended by friends and acquaintances is often more relevant than content from strangers. For example, a movie review from an expert is useful, but a movie review from a friend who shares your tastes can be even better. Because of this, +1’s from friends and contacts can be a useful signal to Google when determining the relevance of your page to a user’s query. This is just one of many signals Google may use to determine a page’s relevance and ranking, and we’re constantly tweaking and improving our algorithm to improve overall search quality. For +1's, as with any new ranking signal, we'll be starting carefully and learning how those signals affect search quality.

Hmmm.  It looks like Google has a plan for this to affect search rankings eventually.  I’d be willing to bet they already have a framework in place for this.  Again, social proof looks like it might affect search rankings soon enough.

And finally….

How will the +1 button affect my traffic?

Google says:

Personalized annotations next to your page in search results may increase your site’s visibility and make your site’s snippet more compelling, which may in turn increase the odds that users will click through to your page.

It looks like having the +1 will increase visibility in the search engines and draw attention to your snippet at least in the Google search engines.

So how do you get a +1 button on your blog posts so you can reap the benefits of +1 as it gets more popular in the days to come?  Easy.  Grab a free plugin called: SEXY BOOKMARKS and simply enable the +1 button as well.

Right now it’s still new enough that we don’t know everything.  But, read what Google is saying and determine for yourself.  If you want to read the whole page of F.A.Q. on Google’s +1 button you can read that here… http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/+1/button/index.html

I don’t believe having the +1 button and getting +1’s on your site are 100% critical.  I believe this will simply be something that “helps” increase search engine rankings.  Links, optimization, keywords and good content will always be important but don’t underestimate the social elements like Google +1.

What do you think?  Are you planning on adding the +1 button?

Ohh, and don't forget to give me a +1 if you like this!  :)

Avoiding Scams and Pitfalls (Great Book)

I haven't been reading as much as I'd like in recent days.  But, one book I decided to read about a month ago was a book called Robbing You With a Keyboard Instead of a Gun.

You can find it at Amazon here <======Not an affiliate link.

This book was great because I learned numerous places where people are ripping other people off online.  Some of these scams are so detailed and so outrageous it's almost hard to believe.

It was written by a guy named Lynn Edgington who actively pursues and goes after cyber criminals.  He is one of the most honorable men I've come across.

I know many of you have already found your way into legit programs online through me including my Niche Blitzkrieg Money Making Course but if you haven't you need to go grab a copy of the book above and see the scams that many other people will try to snare you with.

If you are already in my courses consider Robbing You With a Gun Instead of a Keyboard anyway because you'll be helping out a good group of people that are trying to help us all avoid the crazy online scams that exist.

After you read it be sure to let me know what you think.

Hold The Perfection Please……

I often sit and think and try to remember everything I did when I first started in the business of making money online. I always fall back to one of the keys to the success I've had and that is not trying to make sure everything is perfect before I go after it. Yes, you read that right I try to make sure it's NOT perfect.

One of the hardest things to grasp when you're building your first website or just trying to make money online is that things do not need to be perfect for you to make money. In fact, sometimes you don't even have to be really good at it to make money – it just happens.

I want to share my thoughts on this and I really believe this will help many people. Striving for perfection during the learning phase can lead to discouragement. Let me give you an example. Imagine you're a carpenter and you just started learning how to build a cabinet with a blue print. Do you really think your cabinet will be better than the person who studied for years and has already built things for several years? Probably not. You'll then look over at the guy next to you who been doing it for so long and go “My cabinet looks horrible compared to his! No way is this thing going to sell!”

You know what, you might be right. But, I'd be willing to bet you can still make money with it. The fortunate thing about a website is that once it's built you're not trying to sell the website itself you're simply promoting products on that site which is much simpler. But, that site isn't going to be as well optimized and as good looking as someone that has been in the biz for 5 years.

Along with discouragement comes another issue for those who seek to hit perfection immediately out of the gates. That other is is procrastination. The longer it takes you to get your site out and start link building for it, the more likely you are to keep waiting or even give up. I've always believed that you should get it out there and then tweak after it's out. You have to remember you're not trying to launch an Ipad here that needs to be perfect when it comes out. Wait, you mean even the Ipad wasn't perfect at launch time? Therein lies my point whether we agree with it or not even large companies launch things without them being perfect at first. Because…

A). They'll make a lot of money with it right away.

B). They can tweak it and try to perfect it later. Hopefully.

So even if your site isn't perfect at first chances are you're going to be able to make money with it sooner than later. After you get the site out you can go back and test, tweak, move things around, add more pages/posts or do really whatever you want to it. Plus, by getting it out there and working on it you'll be less likely to be discouraged and less likely to procrastinate or give up.

The mental game of making money online is often harder than the actual process of making money online. We want everything perfect and we want steady money rolling in almost immediately and those are 2 things that seldom happen overnight.

So my advice is skip the perfection and get the site out asap. As time goes by and the more practice you put into this, the more more money you'll make and the easier this all becomes.
